Tailor's account book, 1844-1846.

Tailor's account book, 1844-1846, possibly kept by Samuel Adams, who possibly lived in New York or somewhere in New England. The tailor either made or cut out coats, suits, vests, pants, and jackets. The items are not described, i.e. he does not record what fabric was used and rarely says anything about style, although he does record for whom the items were being made. He also sold some fabric, buttons, and thread. The tailor records expenses for merchandise and manufacturing and purchases for his home. The accounts indicate that he hired women to work for him. He was usually paid in cash, but was also paid with goods. Laid inside the front cover is an index, but not to this volume. It is backed with pages from the New England Gazetteer.
